Frequently Asked Questions
Visiting a private GP may be a new experience for you; these are the questions I am most often asked by new patients.
Visit my FAQs page for more, useful information.
Am I allowed to visit a private GP in addition to my NHS GP?
Yes, you are. Private GPs do not have access to your NHS records so do bring a list of your medications, allergies and any significant past medical history with you.
How much will it cost?
Please see my appointments page for a breakdown of costs.
Do you see children?
Although I am fully trained to see patients from birth, due to the registration of my surgery premises, I am currently only able to see patients who are 18 years or over at my Southwell practice and 16 years or over at my Nottingham practice.
Can a private GP write an NHS prescription?
A private GP is not able to provide an NHS prescription. However, private prescriptions can be very competitively priced & are sometimes cheaper than NHS prescriptions. Some drugs are quite expensive & in this situation you will be asked to pay the actual cost of the drug.
What to expect
A private GP can diagnose, do blood tests & ECGs, write prescriptions and refer to a private consultant.
